This building is located in the heart of Hondón de las Nieves, with east and west-facing façades, opening onto two pedestrian streets that connect to the town square.
Hondón. Lifestyle.
The municipality has no more than 3,000 inhabitants, and life there flows with nature, well-being, and calm. Shopping at the modest local market, exercising in the surrounding farmland or hills, and enjoying the sun and gastronomy can be combined with its proximity to the coast and vibrant towns such as Alicante, Elche, Santa Pola, or Guardamar—just 15 minutes away by car.
The building.
The aim of the project was unavoidably to respect the materials, scale, and essential nature of local vernacular architecture. For this reason, white tones, wood, and earthy finishes have been used. The façade is restricted to two elements: the use of ceramic blocks, both solid and porous, and small balconies with an updated railing design.
It sits between party walls on both sides, next to traditional houses with ground floor and one upper level. The project comprises only 6 apartments on the upper floor, each with its own garage at street level. On Tomás Bordera Street is the pedestrian entrance, leading to a semi-outdoor lobby filled with light, thanks to the ceramic block façade we designed. This east-facing façade filters the morning sunlight in a magical way. The early sun greets you as you step out of the building into the village. From midday onwards, the direct rays fade and the light turns softer and more diffuse, filling the entire space.
The lobby and main staircase are bathed in sunlight, welcoming each new day of a life of well-being.
On Juan Albentosa Street to the west, the building opens its main windows on the upper floors. At ground level, there are 6 garages, each with space for one car and storage—or perhaps a workshop or shop. Each garage connects directly to the main lobby and the lift. All entrances and pathways have been designed to be fully accessible. Each apartment has an independent photovoltaic system, with enough capacity to power the home and garage, including an electric vehicle charger.
The apartments.
The layout of the apartments creates a pleasant and necessary cross-ventilation. The windows are fitted with traditional roll-up persianas alicantinas to control solar radiation. The main living area is an open-plan living-dining-kitchen space, finished with wood and porcelain from the most technologically advanced collections.
