La Nucía, City of Sport
La Nucía has established itself as a major European benchmark for sports infrastructure. The scale and design of its facilities, combined with its ability to attract international academies and specialized talent, have transformed the Camilo Cano Sports City into a unique sports-focused ecosystem.
The Brief
The La Nucía City Council and FCC Aqualia required a building to monitor and manage water and energy consumption at the Camilo Cano Sports City. However, the commission presented a greater opportunity: to make this management visible, communicate a commitment to sustainability, and bring the concept closer to citizens, athletes, and visitors.
The chosen site was a parking lot located in the heart of the complex, surrounded by hotels, sports halls, and the football stadium.
The Project
At arquitectosMAB, we proposed going beyond the building itself to transform the parking lot into the Sports City’s true central plaza—a new public space capable of connecting the facilities and serving as a meeting point.
The building is conceived as both a piece of technical infrastructure and a large-scale communication medium. Its glass envelope and digital skin allow for the display of information regarding water, energy, sports, and sustainability, making the activity managed within visible to the outside world.
The program integrates offices and workspaces dedicated to resource management with a hybrid, adaptable space. When closed, it can function as a venue for exhibitions, presentations, or conferences. When opened to the outside, it transforms into a grand urban stage integrated into the new plaza.
An infrastructure that manages. A building that communicates. A public space that brings people together.
A unique combination that makes the Sports HUB a one-of-a-kind building globally.
